We Are Overflow: Power

Power:
God is moving today.

Is God moving today?

Hebrews 13:8 (NIV) Jesus Christ is the same yesterday and today and forever.

How is God moving today?
Genesis 1:1–2 (NLT) In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth. 2 The earth was formless and empty, and darkness covered the deep waters. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the surface of the waters.

-You know overflow not by what is coming in but by what is pouring out.

“We are not just a full people; we are an overflowing people.”

SPIRIT+TRUTH!

Who is the Holy Spirit?
“Holy”
  • Hagios gk.: Different, Set apart (Sacred), Other than.
“Spirit”
  • Hebrew: ruwach(roo'-akh) wind, a breath, a violent exhalation.
  • Greek: pneuma = current of air, blast of breathe, a strong breeze.

1. He Is God!

  • “Cousin eddy”

“To ignore the Holy Spirit is to ignore God.”

2. The Holy Spirit is a Person, not an “it.”

3. The Holy Spirit resides in those who are His.

Under the Old Covenant, The Holy Spirit rested temporarily on God’s people. Under the New Covenant, He resides permanently on his people!

  • “He moves through those that are his.”

 How does God move today?
Acts 10:38 (NLT) You know that God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power. Then Jesus went around doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with him.

1. Anointing- Assignment

  • Christ= The Anointed one- Christians= little anointed ones.

1 John 2:27 (NIV) As for you, the anointing you received from him remains in you…

“The anointing doesn’t lift; it remains.”

“The purpose of the anointing is not to enhance our experience but to maximize our effectiveness.”

2. Authority

John 1:12 (NLT) But to all who believed him and accepted him, he gave the right(Power) to become children of God.

3. Ability
Acts 1:4–5, 8 (NLT) 4 Once when he was eating with them, he commanded them, “Do not leave Jerusalem until the Father sends you the gift he promised, as I told you before. 5 John baptized with water, but in just a few days you will be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”…8 But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes upon you. And you will be my witnesses, telling people about me everywhere—in Jerusalem, throughout Judea, in Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.”

Power- Dýnamis “ability to perform” for the believer, power to achieve by applying the Lord’s inherent abilities.

John 14:12–17 (NLT)12 “I tell you the truth, anyone who believes in me will do the same works I have done, and even greater works, because I am going to be with the Father. 13 You can ask for anything in my name, and I will do it, so that the Son can bring glory to the Father. 14 Yes, ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it! 15 “If you love me, obey my commandments. 16 And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another Advocate, who will never leave you. 17 He is the Holy Spirit.

Acts 5:15–16 (NLT) 15 As a result of the apostles’ work, sick people were brought out into the streets on beds and mats so that Peter’s shadow might fall across some of them as he went by. 16 Crowds came from the villages around Jerusalem, bringing their sick and those possessed by evil spirits, and they were all healed.

God is moving today by His Spirit through His people.”
